WPA consultant fees explained

When it comes to taking out private health insurance, WPA’s policy requirements may differ from those of other providers. If you want to access private healthcare via your WPA medical insurance policy, you’ll need to make sure these requirements are met before they can be approved for treatment.

For more information on consultant fees, you’ll need to visit the WPA website.

How it works

We mentioned it earlier in this blog but now it’s time to take a look at the process of accessing private healthcare with Practice Plus Group via your WPA health insurance policy. The guide below takes you through it step-by-step.

Contact your health insurance provider

Before you can proceed to a consultation with one of our consultants, you’ll first need to get in touch with WPA. If everything checks out with your policy, they will give you an authorisation code which allows you to book an initial consultation with us.

Choose a registered consultant

WPA will confirm if your specialist is approved to carry out treatment for your specific issue. Choosing which one carries out your treatment is a big decision to make, so remember to take your time. You may wish to do your own research around the listed consultants, making sure you choose the right one for your specific needs.

Book an initial consultation

If you’ve chosen the consultant you want to carry out your treatment, it’s time to have a chat with our friendly patient advisors. They’ll get you booked in for an initial consultation at a time that suits you.

Remember, at your pre-surgery consultation you have the opportunity to learn more about your specific health issue. With that in mind, don’t be reluctant to ask your consultant plenty of questions about what’s to come. Depending on your condition, further diagnostic tests may be needed to arrive at a diagnosis.

Book your consultation

If you need treatment, Practice Plus Group will provide you with a procedure code (also called a CCSD code). WPA will need this to help confirm everything’s in place for your treatment to be covered by your insurance, so you’ll need to get back in touch with them.

How payment works

Please ensure that you have authorised your treatment directly with WPA. As aninsured patient, you’ll need to have your authorisation code available for each step of your treatment.

WPA will be able to advise you of any fees or excess payments you may be liable for. These may include:

  • excess payments
  • cost-share agreements
  • limits on outpatient consultations
  • diagnostic tests
  • any policy restrictions that could financially affect you.

To confirm whether you need to pay any excesses, clarify the limitations and liabilities on your policy, you’ll need to get in touch with WPA directly.

WPA consultant reviews

From carpal tunnel syndrome to hernias, knees, and many more, if you’re struggling with a troublesome issue, our WPA-approved specialists are on-hand to help. Take a look at what past patients have said about their experiences with some of our consultants.

“I saw Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Alison Edwards, who specialises in hand and wrist surgery. She looked at the X-ray and explained what was going on…The whole experience was really professional. Everyone there was calm, friendly, and extremely efficient. You felt like you were in good hands. I’ve been in a lot of hospitals over the years, both NHS and private, and I have to say this one was right up there.”

Humphrey Gervais, carpal tunnel release surgery patient at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Shepton Mallet

Don’t forget, if you want to access your treatment via WPA private medical insurance, the process is simple. You’ll have your treatment at a time to suit you after your initial consultation with a specialist who will be with you throughout your time with us.
