Alongside his independent practice, he is a Consultant Surgeon at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, where he maintains a high-volume emergency and general surgical practice managing a wide range of complex surgical conditions. Mr Sharples has extensive experience in minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgery, including complex hernia surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction. His practice focuses particularly on gallbladder disease, all types of hernia repair and upper GI endoscopy (OGD/gastroscopy). He also has expertise in upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery, including anti-reflux and hiatus hernia surgery.
He completed fellowship training in minimally invasive surgery in Canada and has a strong interest in delivering evidence-based, patient-centred care tailored to each individual patient.
