Practice Plus Group was founded as Care UK in 1982 and rebranded in 2020. Today our healthcare services include hospitals and surgical centres (treating both NHS and private patients), GP practices, NHS walk-in centres, GP out-of-hours, prison health services and clinical assessment and diagnostics facilities. We are also proud to deliver one of the country’s leading ophthalmology services and run a number of NHS 111 call centres.
We work with the NHS to take healthcare services closer to where people live and work – increasing the efficiency and quality of the services we deliver and helping to reduce waiting times – but also provide fast, high-quality hospital treatment to patients who wish to self-fund or use private health insurance.
We assess, diagnose and treat more than one million patients every year. In 2011 our hospitals ranked highest in an independent national rating of the best performing hospitals for both knee replacement and hip replacement operations, and we were the first provider to achieve a clean sweep of ‘Good’ and ‘Outstanding’ CQC ratings for all secondary care services. Our Bristol 111 call centre was also the first in the country to be rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission.
Working alongside the NHS
At Practice Plus Group we have a proud history of working closely with the NHS to deliver high quality healthcare services, reducing waiting times and giving the patient a greater level of choice.
We are the UK’s largest independent provider of NHS services, playing a key part in ensuring free and fair access to healthcare for everyone.
- Practice Plus Group currently delivers more than 70 dedicated NHS services throughout the UK
- Our teams treat more than a million patients every year, meeting a wide range of healthcare needs
- We use the same governance and accountability procedures as the NHS, so we can be measured by the same standards of success.
Patients at the heart
The main benefit of our partnership with the NHS is a better service for patients. Working with a range of partners enables the NHS to ensure that patients are treated quickly and professionally in a location and at a time of their choosing. Together we can focus on improving the quality of service delivery, reducing waiting times and ensuring positive treatment outcomes for everyone.
- Our hospitals don’t deal with emergency cases and specialise in a select range of treatment; this means that the NHS patients who use our services know they will get the treatment that they were expecting, on the day they were expecting it
- We use our ability to be agile and innovate to help the NHS introduce new ideas and ways of working; we’re always coming up with plans for improving the value we deliver to our NHS partners and the experience we give our patients.
Above and beyond
Big shout out to Practice Plus Group Plymouth who went above and beyond to make my day case visit today as comfortable as possible, from the day case nurses to all the theatre staff. Special mention to Carly, Cathy, Amy and Elaine(?) nothing was too much trouble!
Hip replacement, Plymouth – excellent
My Brother, Andrew has just had a left hip replacement. From start through to the discharge I have to say has been excellent. Such a calm atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, it makes a huge difference at a very stressful time. Our grateful thanks to everyone.
Knee replacement, Ilford – I couldn’t praise this unit enough
I had a full knee replacement on Tuesday and I couldn’t praise this unit enough. The nurses and catering staff were very friendly. The nurses also explained everything that was going to happen with my operation and answered any of my concerns. The doctor and anaesthetist also explained to me all about what they were going to do and checked that I was happy before they proceeded. After my operation the nurses were there to help with all my needs. This unit is covid/disease secure so no visitors are allowed but you can take in your mobile phone or tablet and the Wi-Fi is free.
Cataract surgery, Devizes – thank you for the great care
Hernia surgery, Portsmouth – very impressed
Very impressed by this team. All appointments ran to time and all staff empathetic, skilful, kind and friendly. Thank you for all the team at [Practice Plus Group Surgical Centre, St Mary’s Portsmouth] who dealt with my hernia surgery yesterday, it was a pleasure to meet you all. Great sense of team work and moral, and all communication and managing of expectations was top notch.
