Biography

Clare attended Imperial School of Medicine and completed ophthalmic training at the prestigious London Deanery, the latter years as one of the first Walport Clinical Academic Lecturers which morphed into an NIHR Clinical Academic Lecturer Award. She then became a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and subsequently Clinical Lead for the Ophthalmology department at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. She concurrently obtained a PhD in Vision Science and during that time published over 30 articles in peer review journals and has been invited to talk at ophthalmology conferences internationally. She was an NHS London “Prepare to Lead” Mentee and was honoured to be asked to co-ordinate the onsite ophthalmic care in the Olympic Village for London 2012.

Clare moved to the West Country in 2019 when she started work for Practice Plus Group. She is an experienced cataract surgeon, regularly performing around 60-80 cataract operations per week. Clare takes particular care to ensure each patient is comfortable and calm for their eye operation under local anaesthesia, and is very keen to lead the multidisciplinary ophthalmic team to provide a seamlessly kind and caring patient journey on their day of surgery. She is focused on patient-centred care and excellent clinical outcomes. Clare has been involved in numerous clinical research studies. In addition, she has enjoyed being an official doctor to the London Marathon and team doctor for charity treks in Africa.

In her spare time she enjoys playing the piano and oboe. She relaxes listening to music, gardening and being with her family.
