With that in mind, our AXA-approved General Surgeons are on-hand to offer in-depth consultations designed to assess hernia symptoms such as lumps, pain, and dragging discomfort. From these consultations, if treatment is deemed necessary, a tailored plan will be created.

Why see an AXA-approved consultant in the UK?
If you have an AXA health insurance policy, you can use an approved consultant to provide your healthcare. And, at Practice Plus Group, the process of accessing this care through your AXA insurance health insurance is simple – we’ll look closer at this later in this blog.
With Practice Plus Group, AXA health insurance policyholders have the ability to make decisions about their healthcare based on the type of treatment they need, hospital location, and whether an approved consultant is right for their specific needs.
For more information about consultant choice and hospital lists, please see the AXA website.
How to choose the best AXA Health-approved consultant
It’s not necessarily a question of simply choosing the best AXA-approved consultant around but choosing the best specialist for your specific needs. Your insurance provider will give you a list of approved consultants near to where you live or wish to have your treatment.
You can also use our website to search for AXA-approved consultants. The filters also give you the ability to search by treatment type and location. You can also use the AXA consultant finder, a tool dedicated to finding AXA listed consultants by name or location.
AXA consultant fees explained
Some private health insurance providers have more criteria than others. Patients will need to meet these before they can be approved for treatment. The AXA website has more information around fees.
How it works
As we mentioned earlier, it’s now time to look at the process of accessing private healthcare with us via private health insurance. The following step-by-step guide breaks it all down into easy-to-understand sections.
Contact your health insurance provider
Before you can get to treatment, the first thing you’ll need to do is get in touch with AXA. They’ll be able to tell you whether your treatment is financially covered by the terms of your policy and, if it is, they’ll provide you with an authorisation code. This code allows you to proceed to booking an initial consultation with us, so be sure to keep it somewhere safe!
Choose a consultant
Once you’ve got your authorisation code, AXA will also send you a list of consultants that they’ve approved to carry out treatment for your issue. At this point, you’ll need to decide as to which one you’d like to see for a consultation. Remember to take your time; choosing a consultant is an important decision and you may wish to do your own research.
Book an initial consultation
Once you’ve chosen a consultant, the next step is to get in touch with us here at Practice Plus Group. Our friendly patient advisors will get you booked in for an initial consultation at a time that suits you.
Remember, your pre-surgery consultation is an opportunity to learn more about your specific health issue. Don’t be reluctant to speak up and ask your consultant plenty of questions about what’s to come. Depending on your condition, further diagnostic tests may be needed to arrive at a diagnosis.
Book your procedure
If you do need treatment, we’ll provide you with a procedure code. This is sometimes also called a CCSD code which you’ll need to give to AXA so they can confirm your treatment is covered.
How payment works
Please ensure that you have authorised your treatment directly with AXA. As an insured patient, you’ll need to have your authorisation code available for each step of your treatment.
AXA will be able to advise you of any fees or excess payments you may be liable for. These may include:
- excess payments
- cost-share agreements
- limits on outpatient consultations
- diagnostic tests
- any policy restrictions that could financially affect you.
To confirm whether you need to pay any excesses, clarify the limitations and liabilities on your policy, you’ll need to get in touch with AXA directly.
AXA consultant reviews
If persistent pain is affecting your quality of life, it might be time to get it sorted. And that’s where our AXA-approved specialists come in. They’re on-hand to help get you back on your feet and enjoying life again. But don’t just take our word for it, have a look at what a past patient has said about his experience with one of our AXA-approved consultants.
“The whole process of using my private medical insurance with Wellsoon private healthcare from Practice Plus Group was really easy and straightforward – I’d definitely recommend it.”
Ethan, knee surgery at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Ilford
Don’t forget, if you want to access your treatment via AXA private medical insurance, the process is simple. You’ll have your treatment at a time to suit you after your initial consultation with a specialist who will be with you throughout your time with us.
Why choose us for your insured surgery?
At Practice Plus Group, we’re passionate about making sure all our patients receive a positive experience, excellent clinical outcomes, and personalised healthcare on every step of their journey with us.

How to get started
FAQs about seeing an AXA-approved specialist
Still struggling to find the right information? Perhaps our AXA health insurance FAQs can help!
This depends on your specific health issue. In the majority of cases, AXA will need a GP referral but their policy may allow self-referral for things like diagnostic investigation (e.g. MRI scans). You’ll need to get in touch directly with AXA to confirm.
There are a range of different factors to consider when it comes to the cost of private health insurance. You’ll need to get in touch directly with AXA to get a quote for a policy.
This depends on how your insurance policy has been underwritten. You’ll need to have a chat with AXA to confirm the details of your policy before treatment can start.
