Farhan Zaidi

Mr Farhan Zaidi is a highly experienced consultant ophthalmologist with a special interest in cataract and oculoplastic surgery, as well as the management of a broad range of medical retina conditions. He has over 14 years’ experience working as an ophthalmic surgeon.

Biography

Mr Zaidi graduated from University College London Medical School in 1994 with MBBS (Hons), receiving several prizes including one for greatest overall proficiency. He trained at London teaching hospitals, including UCL and Barts, rotating through general surgical specialties before obtaining the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS). He later worked on the Professorial Unit of Plastic Surgery at UCL Hospitals.

Mr Zaidi undertook his ophthalmology specialty training in London, rotating through Moorfields and other major teaching hospitals, covering cataract surgery, general ophthalmology and emergency care. He completed Fellowships in oculoplastic surgery and medical retina at Moorfields. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth) and completed a PhD in ophthalmology at Imperial College London, producing widely cited research.

He has extensive experience as a substantive NHS consultant ophthalmologist, including in emergency ophthalmology. Since 2017, he has been a consultant in Southampton and Clinical Lead for SW London Diabetic Eye Screening Services, responsible for the eye care of over 80,000 patients. In 2024, he was appointed National Clinical Safety Officer (NECSWS) for digital retinal screening across the UK, Ireland and New Zealand.
