I decided to use Barlborough Hospital for a total hip replacement after my mum had a very positive experience when she had her knee replaced. The consultation was a very reasonable price, very “no nonsense”, and included an x-ray. I should have listened to Mr Toth, who is brilliant, and gone straight for the hip replacement but I’m not that old and thought that perhaps an injection would might at least delay the surgery. It only worked for a couple of weeks and then, of course, you have to wait 4 months before you can have the operation. Just goes to show, you need to listen to the experts. By the time I had waited for the operation I had progressed to stage 4 and was in agony almost all the time. I think anybody who has experienced this would recommend a replacement as soon as possible after diagnosis. Anyway, my experience at the hospital was very good. The surgery by Mr Toth has turned out better than I had hoped regarding leg length, positioning of the implant etc. It’s all pretty much perfect. Although I had a spinal injection I was still asleep for the whole procedure, waking up in recovery wondering when they were going to start…. All the staff are very kind, reassuring and professional. And I mean all of them, theatre staff, nursing staff, physio, porters, food, the list goes on. You know who you are. I’ve started on the road to recovery which is painful but not unexpected. Listen to your physio and do the exercises, even if you need some help to begin with. It’s makes a huge difference. In summary, thanks to all, I’ll see you if I have to come back for the other one
