Biography
Mr Charles Ranaboldo is a distinguished consultant general and vascular surgeon with over three decades of experience in the medical field. He graduated from Southampton University in 1984 and subsequently underwent specialist surgical training across the south of England, Europe, the USA, and South Africa.
In 1996, Mr Ranaboldo was appointed to a substantive NHS consultant post, where he built a successful vascular surgical service. His clinical interests encompass venous surgery, specialising in minimal access, catheter-based treatments utilising local anaesthetic, laparoscopic minimal access abdominal surgery, and all forms of abdominal hernia repair using endoscopic and open techniques. He also performs cholecystectomy and benign biliary surgery, including laparoscopic bile duct exploration, hiatal hernia repair, anti-reflux surgery for oesophageal reflux, and splenectomy.
Throughout his career, Mr Ranaboldo has contributed significantly to medical research, authoring numerous publications. His research interests include the non-invasive assessment of carotid artery disease, blood conservation for aortic reconstruction, angioplasty for carotid endarterectomy, artificial intelligence techniques for medical decision-making, evidence-based surgery, leg ulceration, and endovenous treatment.
Mr Ranaboldo’s approach to patient care emphasises the use of minimal access techniques wherever clinically appropriate, delivering improved patient outcomes with rapid recovery. He is a high-volume venous and minimal access surgeon with three decades of experience, basing his practice on patient observation and feedback.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr Ranaboldo has extensive management and clinical governance experience across British healthcare.
