Knee surgery, Plymouth – leading an active life once again

Thanks for performing total knee replacement on me. Due to your excellent skills I am improving daily and leading an active life once again!
by Chris Roberts

Hip surgery, Shepton Mallet – we have saved £6,500

My wife had a total hip replacement yesterday at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Shepton Mallet. They were absolutely brilliant and if like me you maybe needing surgery but on a long waiting list and considering going private, they are definitely worth getting a quote from. We have saved £6,500 by going to them and not another private hospital. Her consultation was 27th May, operation 13th June, home on 14th.

Cataract surgery, Devizes – cannot fault the care and attention

My wife recently had a cataract operation here and cannot fault the care and attention given to her by all the staff involved.

Hip surgery, Barlborough – I would recommend Practice Plus Group without a shadow of a doubt

I was particularly pleased with how well-mannered and attentive everyone was. I had my hip replacement operation at 11.30am and when I came out of surgery, a meal was waiting for me. I was told that if my blood test looked good and the surgeon was happy with me when he saw me at 5pm I could go home that night, and that’s what happened. It was seamless.

Knee replacement, Southampton – absolutely wonderful

I had a knee replacement in May 2022. I have to say that all of the staff from the consultant, the nursing staff and the entire team were absolutely wonderful.

Cataract surgery, Gillingham – everyone very friendly

I went for my cataract assessment today and found everyone very friendly and I was put at ease about the procedure. I feel very relaxed to know that I’ll be in good hands when the time for my surgery arrives.

Hip surgery, Barlborough – aftercare was brilliant!

I went in for my new hip and was out within 3 days! The aftercare was also brilliant – 10/10!

Knee surgery, Barlborough – amazing facility

This was my 2nd time as an inpatient at Barlborough for knee replacement surgery and in my opinion you couldn’t have this surgery at a better place. It is truly outstanding.

Cataract surgery, Portsmouth – exceedingly courteous and helpful

Appointments staff exceedingly courteous and helpful getting both my elderly parents booked in for appointments on the same day and directly after each other, for eye surgery.

Wellsoon private healthcare FAQs

Find the answers to some of our frequently asked questions about Wellsoon UK and our private healthcare services.

Can I pay for an operation privately?

Yes, you can. Prices range depending on the healthcare provider and the location of your chosen hospital.

How much do operations cost privately?

Prices vary depending on the type of surgery you need, the healthcare provider, and the location of the hospital you choose. A full list of private treatment prices is available on our dedicated page.

How can I get private surgery in the UK?

To access private surgery in the UK, you’ll need to submit an enquiry. This is typically done online or by calling the healthcare provider and booking an initial consultation. Once the consultation takes place, a treatment plan is devised.

How does private surgery work?

To access private surgery at Practice Plus Group, you’ll first need to book an appointment. During this initial consultation, a specialist will run a number of tests (e.g. x-rays and blood tests) to arrive at a diagnosis and treatment plan tailored to your needs. If surgery is needed, we’ll be in touch to book you in at a time and place to suit you.

Is private surgery better than the NHS?

It isn’t necessarily a question of NHS vs private healthcare as both offer pros and cons. A lot will depend on the individual circumstances of each patient. Financial means, geographical location, and waiting lists are just a few factors when weighing up the options.

How long do you have to wait for private surgery?

This depends on the location of the hospital but typically, private surgery waiting times are much shorter than those on the NHS. At Practice Plus Group, your surgery will take place just four-to-six weeks after your consultation.

Is it faster to go private or to the NHS?

The majority of the time, the answer to this is yes. The NHS features long waiting lists for certain treatments, some taking well over six months from initial enquiry to surgery. At Practice Plus Group, it typically takes between a few days to a couple of weeks to get an initial consultation. If surgery is needed, this will take place in four-to-six weeks.

Can you book yourself into a private hospital?

Yes, you can, however you’ll likely need to have an initial consultation first. At Practice Plus Group, you can submit an online enquiry or call us on 0330 822 6531.

Can private consultants see NHS records?

Yes. For example, if you’ve had an initial consultation with the NHS and wish to have your treatment privately, your private consultant will need to see your NHS records to make their own diagnosis. Records are typically requested by the hospital themselves, but you may be asked to give your permission.

Can you go private without a GP referral?

Yes, you can. Simply book an initial consultation where a specialist will run tests to help diagnose your issue and create a treatment plan.

Can you mix private and NHS treatment?

In a sense, yes. For example, if you’ve had an NHS consultation, you can then choose to go private, and vice versa. However, in this instance, you will need to have another consultation. At Practice Plus Group, this costs just £95 and is an opportunity for one of our specialists to diagnose your issue and devise a tailored treatment plan.

How do I choose the right private medical care near me?

Unfortunately, this is the bit where you’ll have to do some homework. We strongly recommend researching the private healthcare options near you. Read testimonials and reviews from past patients to give you a flavour of what to expect from each provider. You should also look for things like consultant experience, success rates, and how many procedures they carry out each year in your specific field.
