What is Dupuytren’s fasciectomy surgery?

A Dupuytren’s fasciectomy revision is a secondary surgical procedure performed to treat recurrent or persistent Dupuytren’s contracture. The procedure involves re-operating on the hand to remove newly formed fibrous cords or diseased tissue.

Why is it performed?

Dupuytren’s disease is a chronic condition; while surgery corrects the contracture and straightens the fingers, it does not cure the underlying disease. Revision surgery will generally be considered if:

  • the disease recurs causing the finger to curl inward again
  • the initial surgery did not achieve full finger straightening
  • scar tissue from the first operation restricts hand movement.
