What is anal fissure repair?

Anal fissure repair is a procedure designed to heal a painful tear in the anal canal. It aims to relieve the muscle spasms that prevent blood flow, allowing the wound to close.

What happens during the procedure?

During surgery, a small incision is made in the internal anal sphincter muscle in order to release tension. This stops the muscles from spasming and improves blood flow so the tear can heal.
