A nerve conduction study (NCS) is a diagnostic test that measures how fast and how strongly electrical signals travel through your nerves. By placing electrode patches on your skin, doctors can stimulate your nerves with mild electrical pulses and record how well the signals are transmitted.
Doctors use a nerve conduction study to evaluate the health of your peripheral nerves (i.e. the nerves outside your brain and spinal cord).
