Working in a prison can seem tough and even a bit intimidating. However, if you take a closer look at our team at HMP Stafford, you’ll quickly realize there’s much more to it.
The team at HMP Stafford, a category C men’s prison, has created a supportive workplace where everyone feels valued and rewarded. The tight-knit crew of healthcare heroes – nurses, paramedics, pharmacy techs, and healthcare assistants – deliver quality, compassionate care to around 750 patients with a variety of needs. They know each other well and they bond over shared experiences, fostering a workplace where collaboration thrives.
At HMP Stafford, it’s all about staying connected. As Reb, Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) at HMP Stafford, puts it, “We sit and have lunch together. We don’t have our mobile phones with us inside prison and this means we sit and talk to each other which really helps build personal and professional relationships.”
This closeness shines through in everything they do. The team spends quality time together outside of work, engaging in fun yet meaningful activities that strengthen their teamwork. This year, the team rocked the Race for Life Pretty Muddy event, smashing their fundraising goal and raising £1850 for Cancer Research UK. In previous years, some team members have run marathons to support dementia research and Macmillan Cancer Support. It’s not just about the money but about coming together for a cause they believe in.
From distributing pin badges and stationery to the entire team on International Nurses Day to having heartfelt conversations over cakes brought in by colleagues, there are always great opportunities to celebrate our time together. Inclusivity is recognized in every action of the team. They kicked off Pride Month by distributing badges and more.
The professional nurse advocate program, facilitated by Practice Plus Group, plays a crucial role in the team’s development and well-being. The program helps to ensure that staff receive necessary clinical supervision and support, contributing to a positive and professional work environment. The management team is also highly supportive, recognising every employee’s needs inside and outside work.
If you’re looking for a workplace where your contributions matter, team spirit thrives, and work-life balance is prioritised, Practice Plus Group’s prison healthcare team could be the perfect fit.
