“When I reflect on my career journey, one thing that stands out above all else is the power of professional development. Since joining the Practice Plus Group Urgent Treatment Centre, Portsmouth, I’ve experienced first-hand how a supportive, development-focused culture can impact not just your career but your confidence, your leadership skills, and your passion for healthcare.
A career built on opportunity
I joined the Practice Plus Group Urgent Treatment Centre, Portsmouth as a junior practitioner, having spent over a decade working as a nurse in busy emergency departments. I was looking for a role that balanced clinical challenge with a better work-life dynamic.
What I found here was so much more. I found a team that prioritised growth, invested in my potential, and gave me the tools to step up quickly.
Within a short time, I progressed to senior practitioner, taking on shift coordination, mentoring junior staff, and liaising with ambulance services. Today, I’m proud to be a Deputy Clinical Lead, supporting clinical operations and playing a key role in staff training and development.
A workplace where development comes first
At Practice Plus Group Urgent Treatment Centre, Portsmouth, career development in healthcare is a culture. We have built a structured development programme that guides new practitioners through every stage of progression. From portfolio support and clinical audits to formal training sessions and project leadership, opportunities are everywhere.
One of the projects I’m extremely proud of, was redesigning our resuscitation room. It is a real example of how clinicians here are trusted to lead meaningful change.

This culture of learning and shared growth has been key in supporting our current cohort of six junior practitioners and it’s what keeps me excited to come to work every day.
