Miss Smita Jain is a consultant gynaecologist at Practice Plus Group, Southampton.
Miss Smita Jain has over thirty years’ experience working in gynaecology. She is a general gynaecologist with a special interest in urogynaecology and urodynamics, menstrual disorders, menopause, general and ambulatory gynaecology. She is additionally a graduate of the Wessex Specialist Registrar Training Programme in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (2003- 2009) and was awarded a CCT in 2008. She undertook her primary medical qualifications in her native India, before working in Taiwan (for fellowship) and Canada.
She was actively involved at the RCOG as a clinical member of the national patient information committee for 3 years. She enjoys taking part in medical education too, where she was a Tier-Two Educator for an internationally delivered MRCOG preparation course. Currently, she is helping out as an honorary exam facilitator for the MRCOG part 2 course.
Miss Jain joined the team at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Southampton in 2011. She has been working as a full-time consultant gynaecologist for the last 14 years. She provides consultant-level care for gynaecology through outpatients clinics, urodynamics clinics, flexible cystoscopy clinics, Ambulatory gynaecology procedure clinics, and gynaecology operating theatres; in addition to being involved in the conducting of MDT meetings and day-to-day running of in-house gynaecology services. She had a successful revalidation report in 2020 from the GMC. Our department at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Southampton has regularly appraised her annually, with all appraisals being more than satisfactory performance.

Since medical school Miss Jain has have been heavily interested in research and have been actively involved in clinical research since 1996. So far, she has 27 articles and book chapters published in various (international) peer-reviewed journals and textbooks. For example, she has book chapters in the Oxford Desk Reference textbook, which is very popular among medical students, GPs and O&G Trainees.
