Radiology

If you need answers about your health, radiology can provide detailed images of the inside of your body to help diagnose conditions and guide your treatment. Our experienced radiology teams provide expert care for NHS, self-pay and private medical insurance patients, supporting you throughout your appointment.

What is radiology?

Radiology is a branch of medicine that uses imaging technologies such as X-rays, MRIs, and ultrasounds, to look inside the body.

Why is it performed?

Doctors specialising in this field are called radiologists. They use these images to diagnose, treat, and monitor conditions, diseases, and injuries.

What is diagnostic radiology?

Diagnostic radiology captures images of the body's internal structures in order to detect abnormalities, determine the cause of symptoms, or screen for illnesses (like cancer or heart disease).

Common diagnostic imaging tests include:

  • X-rays: Uses radiation to create images, most commonly used to identify broken bones
  • CT Scans: Combines a series of X-ray images taken from different angles to create cross-sectional views of the body
  • MRI: Uses powerful magnetic fields and radio waves to generate detailed images of organs and tissues
  • Ultrasound: Uses sound waves to produce moving images of internal organs, muscles, and a developing fetus.

What does radiology involve?

Radiology uses advanced imaging technology to create detailed pictures of different areas of your body. Your healthcare team will explain what to expect from your scan or imaging appointment and provide any guidance you need beforehand.
