Practice Plus Group wins prestigious HealthInvestor award

We are proud to announce that Practice Plus Group has been named Private Hospital Group of the Year at the 2025 HealthInvestor Awards. This prestigious recognition celebrates a transformational year marked by growth, innovation in our Wellsoon private healthcare service, and unwavering support for the NHS.

“Our Wellsoon brand has attracted thousands of new private patients, the vast majority of whom have never used private healthcare before.

This is testament to our new approach to private healthcare, with honest, fixed pricing, no hidden extras, a personalised approach and all at lower prices than other private hospitals.”

A year of growth and expansion

This year has been characterised by continuous improvement and growth for Practice Plus Group hospitals and surgical centres.

Our Wellsoon private healthcare service has continued to attract patients facing long NHS waits, while our NHS partnerships remain critical in helping to tackle national waiting list pressures.

This year, we opened a new hospital in Birmingham, receiving outstanding patient feedback. We also expanded our ophthalmology services and introduced bariatric surgery, varicose vein treatment, vitreo-retinal eye surgery, and private GP appointments at some of our sites, broadening access and enhancing patient care.

Unlocking access to surgery

Every year, we carry out around 10,000 hip and knee replacements, alongside general surgery, ophthalmology, endoscopy and more. NHS patients who exercise their right to ‘patient choice’ or ‘choose and book’ will usually find shorter waits at our hospitals than in large NHS Trusts, and can ask their GP for a referral, while private patients can book a £95 consultation directly through our UK-based contact centre.

A major focus this year has been improving access to surgery. We now offer IV iron infusions to patients with anaemia, enabling quicker surgical readiness without needing to return to their GP. Our pilot BMI clinic, with an 86.4% success rate, has supported patients in reducing weight to meet surgical criteria and is now being rolled out nationally.

We also launched an online Joint School, helping patients prepare mentally and physically for joint surgery, and are rolling out a medicine optimisation service developed at our Shepton Mallet hospital. This process helps prevent last-minute cancellations, saving both time and cost, while improving patient outcomes.

Growing the private market with Wellsoon

Our Wellsoon brand has attracted thousands of new private patients, the vast majority of whom have never used private healthcare before. This is testament to our new approach to private healthcare, with honest, fixed pricing, no hidden extras, a personalised approach and all at lower prices than other private hospitals.

We’ve retained our 100% CQC ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ ratings across all locations and continue to lead on cleanliness, infection control, and patient satisfaction, reflecting our enduring commitment to quality and patient care.
