Nurses, consultants and the theatre team at our Practice Plus Group Hospital, Plymouth, are celebrating after achieving Gold in the National Joint Registry (NJR) awards for demonstrating consistently high patient safety standards for its joint replacement surgeries.
As a specialist in orthopaedic surgery, Practice Plus Group Hospital, Plymouth, complete a large volume of joint replacements every year for both NHS and private patients – most commonly hip and knee replacements – and has successfully completed a rigorous quality data audit for the NJR to demonstrate ‘best practice’ and ensure the very best in patient outcomes.

“At our hospitals, patient safety is always our top priority, and this award is a reflection of our commitment to providing exceptional care for every patient.”
Sarah Fell, Hospital Director
The NJR monitors the performance of hip, knee, ankle, elbow and shoulder joint replacement procedures to improve the clinical outcomes for patients, and to provide feedback on surgical performance to orthopaedic clinicians and joint replacement implant manufacturers. The ‘NJR Quality Data Provider’ certificate scheme was introduced to offer hospitals a blueprint for reaching high quality standards relating to patient safety and to reward those who have met the registry’s high targets in the achievement of the quality of the data collected.
Sarah Fell, Hospital Director, Practice Plus Group Hospital, Plymouth, says: “This accolade is a testament to our incredible team for their dedication and expertise in orthopaedic procedures, and to our patients for trusting us with their joint replacements. Special thanks to Karen Harthill, Operating Department Practitioner, who is instrumental in the work involved to continuously monitor and prepare our data. At our hospitals, patient safety is always our top priority, and this award is a reflection of our commitment to providing exceptional care for every patient.”
Medical Director of the National Joint Registry, Mr Tim Wilton, said: “Congratulations to colleagues at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Plymouth. The Quality Data Provider Award received by the team at this hospital demonstrates the high standards that are being met in ensuring compliance with the registry and is a reflection of the strong departmental efforts to achieve such status.
“As well as being a fundamental driver to inform improved quality of care for patients, our registry data also provides an important source of evidence for regulators, such as the Care Quality Commission, to help to inform their knowledge and judgement about the quality of health services.”
