Sporty teacher Louise from Buckinghamshire, feared persistent knee pain would stop her taking part in a charity challenge with friends after years of hockey and running left her struggling with a meniscus tear in her left knee.
After finding private treatment costs at a local hospital very expensive, Louise turned to Practice Plus Group MSK in High Wycombe for help. Within 10 days, she received an ultrasound-guided steroid injection designed to reduce inflammation and help her return to activity safely. Weeks later, she successfully completed 45km of the Jurassic Coast Challenge over two days – and is now hoping to return to running.

“Thank you to the team at Practice Plus Group MSK for looking after me and helping me to achieve my goal!”

Louise says: “I’ve always been active, so not being able to run or play hockey properly was really frustrating for me. The pain in my knee had gradually got worse and even day-to-day things like teaching became uncomfortable. By the evening, my knee would really ache and I often had to sleep with a pillow underneath it just to get comfortable.
“I’d tried physiotherapy, but it wasn’t improving enough, so I paid privately for an MRI and consultation at a local private hospital. Although it gave me answers, I was shocked by how expensive it was and still didn’t have treatment sorted.
“A friend mentioned Practice Plus Group MSK and Diagnostics in nearby High Wycombe and said they might be able to help more affordably. I sent over my MRI results and within about 10 days I was booked in for a steroid injection at a significantly lower price than I was quoted at the other hospital.
“Everything felt really smooth from the start. There wasn’t loads of paperwork because they already had my information, which made the whole experience much less stressful. The consultant explained exactly what was causing the pain and talked me through all the options before recommending a steroid injection to settle the inflammation first.

“The procedure itself took less than half an hour and felt very efficient and well organised. Afterwards, they gave me really practical advice about recovery – taking it easy initially, keeping gently active and then building back up gradually.
“I’d originally hoped to complete the entire Jurassic Coast Challenge, but in the end, I decided to take it steadily and just see how my knee coped. I took it really easy and my knee held out and felt comfortable. I was delighted to complete 45km over two days – I know without the injection I wouldn’t have even made it to the start line.
“Now my knee has settled down and the pain has gone, I’m starting to feel optimistic again. I’ve actually signed up for a half marathon next year and I’m hoping that with sensible training and recovery, I’ll be able to get back into running properly.
“Thank you to the team at Practice Plus Group MSK for looking after me and helping me to achieve my goal!”
