Biography
Mr Vasileios Kefalas is a graduate of the Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1996, he went on to undertake mandatory year-long service both in the Greek Army Medical Department and as a working GP. He progressed to work as a registrar at a number of leading Medical institutions in Greece before completing his training in Orthopaedics in 2007 and granted his CCT in Trauma and Orthopaedics after which he became an Associate Specialist in the Upper Limb team of the 1st University Orthopaedic Department for the General Hospital Georgios Papanikolaou in Thessaloniki, Greece.
Mr Kefalas moved to England in 2008 to work as an Upper Limb Fellow at the Wrightington Hospital in Wigan UK, a ’Centre of Orthopaedic Excellence’, before his move to Southampton General University Hospital, UK where he worked and trained as senior upper limb fellow. He was admitted to the GMC Specialist Register in 2008. He has successfully granted the FESSH European Diploma in Hand surgery in 2013 and he is member of the BSSH (British Society of Surgery of the Hand)
At Practice Plus Group Hospital, Southampton he currently undertakes a wide range of operative procedures, including carpal tunnel releases / revisions, trigger thumb / finger, ganglions (open or arthroscopic removal), lump-soft tissue tumour removals, soft tissue procedures (i.e. ligament reconstructions, fasciectomies for Dupuytren’s disease), trapeziectomies, wrist arthroscopy, nerve entrapment , procedures for acute and chronic conditions of the wrist (osteotomies, fusions, joint replacements etc).
