He has contributed to the setup, delivery, and ongoing development of a bariatric surgical service within the NHS. His extensive experience includes managing bariatric surgery patients both pre- and post-operatively. He excels in team environments, fostering good rapport with patients to maximize their satisfaction post-surgery and during follow-up care. John is confident in his ability to contribute proactively to a thriving organization and aid in the development of its bariatric service.

John has held numerous clinical roles within the department over the past 18 years, each requiring collaboration with various teams and reporting to different levels of management. These roles have honed his communication skills with a diverse range of individuals and groups, reflecting his keen interest in food and food science.

He has progressed to higher-grade posts multiple times and served as a team leader for three years, demonstrating strong leadership qualities and aiding staff development through appraisals. This role also involved addressing patient complaints and responding appropriately.

For the past ten years, his focus has been within the weight management domain, where he helped design and set up a weight management service. This role involved providing detailed reports to service commissioners and considering financial implications to deliver a high-quality service at a competitive cost. His clinical work includes pre- and post-bariatric surgery support, involving detailed pre-operative assessments and patient support leading up to surgery. Post-operatively, he provides significant aftercare both on the ward and predominantly in the clinic, including support in the follow-up pathway, clinical assessment of micronutrient blood levels, and ensuring compliance with supplementation. He is adept at adjusting gastric bands in both clinical and x-ray settings. In 2022, he completed the Non-Medical Prescribing course and is currently registered as a supplementary prescriber.
