Biography

Mr D’Alterio trained at some of the world’s leading ophthalmology centres, including St Paul’s Eye Unit (Royal Liverpool University Hospital), Newcastle Eye Centre, and Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, completing internationally recognised fellowships in vitreoretinal surgery. This extensive training has given him experience in treating retinal detachments, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, vitreous haemorrhages, and complications of diabetic retinopathy.

Mr D’Alterio is also highly skilled in managing medical retina conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular oedema, and macular oedema caused by retinal vein occlusion. He completed a dedicated Medical Retina fellowship at the Western Eye Hospital (Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust), enabling him to provide evidence-based, minimally invasive treatments including intravitreal injections and retinal laser therapy.

He holds a 2nd level Master’s Degree in Vitreoretinal Surgery from Humanitas University, Milan, and the prestigious Fellowship of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBOphth). Alongside his work at Practice Plus Group, he serves as a locum consultant ophthalmologist at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, maintaining close links with NHS practice.

Mr D’Alterio offers a full range of ophthalmic procedures, including cataract surgery with monofocal or premium IOLs (such as toric, extended depth of focus, and multifocal IOLs), complex cataract surgery, management of cataract surgery complications, vitreoretinal surgery (including macular hole, epiretinal membrane, retinal detachment, vitreous haemorrhage, floaters, diabetic retinopathy-related complications, IOL exchange, secondary IOL, and scleral or iris-fixated IOL), YAG laser (capsulotomy and iridotomy), retinal laser (Argon), and intravitreal injections (anti-VEGF and sustained-release steroid implants) for macular conditions including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular oedema, and macular oedema due to retinal vein occlusion.
