Biography
Dr Esmaeil Arbabi is the Medical director at Moorfields Eye Hospital Abu Dhabi. He specialises in corneal transplant, cataract and laser refractive surgery. Prior to joining Moorfields Eye Hospital, he was Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and the Lead for Refractive Services at The Royal Liverpool University Hospital, UK, where he helped establish Liverpool’s fully-fledged laser refractive service: St Paul’s Laser Vision.
He is a fully accredited laser and refractive surgeon, holding several prestigious degrees and certifications in this field including MSc in Cataract and Refractive Surgery from Ulster University, Certificate in Laser and Refractive Surgery (CertLRS) from Royal College of Ophthalmologist and Subspecialty Diploma in Cataract and Refractive Surgery (FEBOS-CR) which was a combined award by European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the European Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr Arbabi is a highly experienced consultant a high volume cataract surgeon performing 25 cases of phacoemulsification or more on a routine daily list. Esmaeil’s expertise of refractive surgery covers all areas including laser vision correction such as SMILE, ICL implants, refractive lens exchange and premium cataract surgery. His expertise in corneal surgeries span from all types of corneal transplant including DMEK, DSAEK, PDEK, DALK, PKP to complex ocular surface reconstruction and keratoprosthesis.
He delights in helping patients achieve fantastic vision and, through highly individualised care, takes pride in making the entire experience as enjoyable as possible.
Research and publications
He has an extensive research interest and has been involved in various studies and clinical trials. He has published many papers in highly reputable and peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Refractive Surgery and the British Medical Journal (BMJ) in addition to writing various books chapters. He has presented his work in national and international conferences.
