Today we hear from Lyndsay, a senior physiotherapist at Practice Plus Group MSK, Buckinghamshire.
“I qualified with a BSc (hons) Physiotherapy from Teesside University in 1996 and completed my junior rotations over the next two years before deciding to specialise in Musculoskeletal Outpatient Physiotherapy. Since then I have worked all over Buckinghamshire gaining experience in this role at a variety of locations and completed my MSc Physiotherapy in 2017. Completing my MSc and having a good team of supportive colleagues around me has allowed me to extend my core physio skills in many ways including the ability to provide joint and soft tissue injection clinics for our patients.
“As an MSK physiotherapist I am responsible for providing advice and treatment for a wide range of orthopaedic and rheumatological conditions that affect joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons – for example, sports injuries, lower back pain, complex pain conditions and after some surgical procedures. My main focus as a physiotherapist is trying to establish what the patient wants from their encounter with our service and work with them to find a realistic way for them to achieve that. Describing a typical day for me is a tall order as every day brings new challenges with it but always in a good way!
“I work a split role so part of my hours are clinical and part of my hours are as the Clinical Governance Lead for the service, this is ideal for me as it gives me a varied workload and the Clinical Governance part of my role allows me to become more involved in service audits that allow us to prove our effectiveness as a service as well as identifying an improvements that we can make.”
