Biography

Mr Kaprinis (MD, MSc, PhD, FEBO) is a highly skilful Ophthalmic Surgeon with excellent clinical knowledge across the range of Ophthalmology. He is currently appointed as Consultant Ophthalmic and Vitreoretinal Surgeon in Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust and practices in Greater Manchester, UK.

He graduated Medical School from the University of Athens in 2007 and received comprehensive training in Ophthalmology in the most renowned Eye Hospital of Athens. His subspecialty training includes three very prestigious fellowships in Vitreoretinal Surgery in Royal Liverpool Hospital, Cheltenham General Hospital and Whipps Cross Hospital in London, as well as dedicated fellowships in Cataract Surgery and Medical Retina in Lincoln General and Southampton University Hospitals.

He is proficient in cataract surgery including high-complexity cataract cases, and very experienced in the use of premium intraocular implants including multifocal, toric and extended depth-of-focus lenses. Moreover, he excels in the field of small gauge vitreoretinal surgery, and he has vast experience in a wide range of retinal conditions requiring surgical management. These include floaterectomy; retinal detachments; macular surgery, macular holes and epiretinal membranes; highly complex diabetic retinopathy; secondary intraocular lenses, scleral fixation lenses and more. He also has extensive knowledge in the management of retinal conditions requiring medical treatment such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and other vascular problems of the retina and he is very experienced in ophthalmic lasers.

Teaching and training

In addition to providing high quality elective and emergency vitreoretinal care, he is highly committed in teaching and training. He has a very active role in training Ophthalmic trainees, supervising junior surgeons and teaching undergraduate medical students. He also has a strong background in research. He has completed a Master’s degree and a PhD and has publications in peer reviewed journals and presentations in international conferences. In his current post, he has a very active role in leadership and has completed quality improvement projects in the departments he has worked.

Mr Kaprinis lives in Leeds, he enjoys travelling and landscape photography and is an avid sailor.
