A varicose vein scan, or Doppler scan, is a non-invasive ultrasound test used to assess the blood flow in your leg veins. It helps identify damaged vein valves, pinpoint the source of varicose veins, and determine the most suitable treatment options.
The scan is painless and does not involve radiation or needles. During the appointment, a specialist will use ultrasound imaging to examine the veins in your legs and assess how effectively blood is flowing back towards your heart.
The results of your Doppler scan can help diagnose venous insufficiency and support treatment planning for symptoms such as visible varicose veins, aching legs, swelling, heaviness, itching, or discomfort.
