Practice Plus Group Hospitals reports strong quality outcomes as it expands NHS capacity and private healthcare services.
Practice Plus Group Hospitals has published its 2026 Quality Report, highlighting another year of strong clinical performance, continued investment in patient safety and digital innovation, alongside growth in NHS elective capacity and private healthcare services.
The report is the first since Practice Plus Group Hospitals was acquired by Narayana Health in November 2025, bringing together one of the world’s leading healthcare providers, recognised for its focus on clinical quality, outcomes and innovation, with one of the UK’s largest independent providers of NHS and private elective services.

Between April 2025 and March 2026, Practice Plus Group Hospitals carried out more than 130,000 day-case and inpatient procedures and 280,000 outpatient consultations, supporting NHS waiting list recovery while expanding access through private medical insurance (PMI) and self-pay pathways.
Although predominantly an NHS provider, the organisation has also expanded its private healthcare services through a growing network of PMI partnerships and investment in its self-pay offering. This provides patients with greater choice and access to consultations, diagnostics and surgery, while adding capacity to the wider healthcare system.
The report highlights consistently strong performance across the organisation’s network of 12 hospitals and surgical centres, urgent treatment centres, ophthalmology, diagnostics and musculoskeletal services.
Key achievements include:
- More than 130,000 procedures and surgeries delivered during the year.
- Zero reported cases of Clostridioides difficile (C. difficile) infection across all services.
- Venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk assessment compliance of 95.9%, exceeding the national target.
- Friends and Family Test results consistently above the national average.
- 94% of colleagues saying they would recommend Practice Plus Group as a healthcare provider.
- All hospitals and surgical centres retaining Care Quality Commission ratings of Good or Outstanding, with no enforcement action during the reporting period.
- National Joint Registry (NJR) Quality Data Provider status achieved across every Practice Plus Group hospital, recognising excellence in clinical data quality, patient safety and orthopaedic outcomes.
The organisation has increased its ability to safely treat more complex patients through enhanced clinical pathways, multidisciplinary decision-making and investment in hospital infrastructure, including the ongoing development of Practice Plus Group Hospital, Birmingham, which opened in 2024.
Digital transformation also remains a key focus, with work underway towards Quality Standard for Imaging (QSI) accreditation, the development of electronic pre-operative assessment pathways and enhancements to electronic patient records to improve clinical efficiency, governance and patient experience.
The report also outlines continued progress in embedding the NHS Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), with greater use of thematic reviews, patient and family involvement and strengthened governance to support learning from incidents.

Looking ahead, Practice Plus Group Hospitals has identified seven priorities for 2026/27, including strengthening patient involvement in safety learning, quality governance and patient representation; achieving QSI accreditation; enhancing the perioperative pathway; strengthening infection prevention and risk management; improving medical device governance; and introducing Penthrox as an alternative to nitrous oxide in Endoscopy and Urgent Treatment Centres.
