What is the removal of lump from an eyelid?

An eyelid lump removal is a minor surgical procedure used to clear out blocked oil glands or benign cysts that do not respond to more conservative treatment methods. It is performed under local anaesthesia and the procedure involves flipping the eyelid and gently draining the lump to restore vision and comfort.

Why is it performed?

While eyelid lumps are very common, surgical removal is typically recommended if the lump:

  • is large enough to press on the cornea and cause blurred vision
  • does not drain or shrink after several months of conservative home treatment
  • is cosmetically bothersome
  • isn’t a simple a cyst and requires further investigation (a biopsy).
