We’re proud to share that Practice Plus Group Ophthalmology has won Best Provider of Community and Primary Care at the HSJ Independent Healthcare Provider Awards – one of the most prestigious and respected programmes in the UK health sector, often referred to as the “Oscars” of healthcare.
The awards took place last night in London, attended by Tom Challinor (Head of Nursing and Governance, Northwest Ophthalmology), Caroline McHugh (Service Director for Ophthalmology), Paul Wharton-Hardman (Operational Governance and Quality Manager) and Konstantinos Balaskas (Medical Director, Ophthalmology).

“The Award is deemed the most prestigious annual benchmarking and recognition programme for the UK health sector.”
Caroline McHugh, Service Director, Ophthalmology
The judging panel praised the service, stating:
“This genuinely impressive initiative does exactly what the best models of care should do: demonstrates SMART outcomes, improves access, reduces waiting times, proves its cost effectiveness, and builds something transferable enough that others across the health system would do well to follow.”
This prestigious award recognises the team’s delivery of outstanding clinical outcomes, improved access to treatment, and reduced waiting times – alongside a model of care that can be successfully replicated across the wider healthcare system.
It reflects the very best of community care – personal, accessible and compassionate – and is a testament to the dedication of teams across the country. Special recognition goes to colleagues leading community eye care through our mobile eye units in both the north and south of England.
Congratulations to everyone involved in this fantastic achievement.
