What to expect at your gynaecology appointment in Bristol
So, how does it all work? Below, we explore what you can expect from gynaecological consultations in Bristol with us.
Booking your initial consultation
If you’re planning on accessing gynaecology treatment with us at Wellsoon, the wait for an initial consultation is just 1-2 weeks. Simply give us a call on 0330 053 6445 or complete and submit an online enquiry form.
Waiting times for NHS gynaecology consultations vary depending on consultant availability and where you want to have your treatment. Currently, they can be anything between 15-25 weeks. The My Planned Care* website is a regularly updated resource that shows the different waiting times for hospitals across England.

Diagnostic and treatment process
During consultation, your gynaecological specialist may need to take diagnostic images to help arrive at a diagnosis. X-rays are included in the £95 cost of your private consultation, but if an MRI or ultrasound scan is needed, please be aware this will incur a further one-off cost. If these are necessary, your consultant will clearly explain why and give you a fixed price. While your consultant will strive to get any diagnostic imaging done on the day you’re with us, unfortunately this isn’t always possible. If we do need to get you back in, we’ll make sure this is at a time to suit you.
Aftercare and ongoing support
After your treatment, you’ll be taken to the Post-Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU). The nursing team monitors their vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, alertness, pain or discomfort) and administers any medications needed. If your nursing team is satisfied with your progress, you’ll be able to return home on the same day. If you do need to stay with us overnight, you’ll be taken to the ward.
After returning home, specific instructions will be provided by your surgeon and physiotherapist. These need to be followed carefully to encourage proper recovery. Patients may be advised to stay mobile to prevent DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) and embolism. Patients will likely be told to avoid activities such as heavy lifting in case of prolapse surgery.
Patients recover at different rates, depending on a number of factors. In general, patients should expect to be fully recovered within a few months depending on the type of procedure that was carried out.

Money makes the world go round – right? Well, technically that’s gravity, but if you’re looking for affordable private gynaecologists in Bristol, money certainly helps. But how much will you need? And are there ways to pay other than from your own pocket?

Using health insurance or self-pay
Aside from paying for your treatment yourself, another way to access your gynaecology treatment is via private medical insurance. To do this, you’ll need to make sure your existing policy covers the specific gynaecology treatment you need before you can proceed. Your insurer will give you a list of pre-approved orthopaedic consultants from which you’ll need to choose the one you want to carry out your treatment. This is a big decision, so be sure to take your time and do your research.
Another option is to spread the cost of your gynaecology surgery by using payment plans. These are available over 12 months at 0% APR or, for more long-term options, from 24-60 months at 14.9% APR.
