Call PHILL: do you have a healthcare concern about someone in prison?
We know that having a loved one in prison can present a wide range of worries. Call PHILL, which stands for the Prisoner Health Information and Liaison Line, is a confidential phone line set up for family and friends to share information about the health and wellbeing of people in prison.
Information received will be shared with the healthcare team looking after the individual, with the aim of improving patient safety and preventing delays in accessing essential medication or support.
Examples of information that can be passed on by the team includes:
- Details of any pre-existing conditions which may affect a patient’s health and wellbeing;
- A list of medications or treatments that a loved one in prison usually takes;
- Information relating to recent substance misuse which may present an imminent risk;
- Concerns around mental health or wellbeing.
In certain circumstances, the service also allows members of the healthcare team to make contact with trusted family members. The Call PHILL phone line is currently available for the friends and family of patients in the following prisons:
- HMP Brixton
- HMP Wormwood Scrubs
- HMP Pentonville
- HMP Wandsworth
