Biography
I am a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with a particular interest in upper limb conditions. I studied at the University of Cape Town and the University of Bristol where I obtained my medical degree (MBChB) and doctorate (MD). My Higher Specialist training took place in Bristol and Perth, Australia.
I specialised in the non-surgical and surgical management of disorders of the upper limb including the shoulder, elbow and hand.
I have a strong research background. I have been an honorary lecturer through the University of Bristol where I still collaborate on studies involving mesenchymal stem cells utilised in the treatment and prevention of osteoarthritis.
I am a passionate trainer and find the teaching of the next generation of doctors and surgeons to be highly rewarding and a real privilege.
Having moved from South Africa I now live in Bristol with my wife, two young boys and a very energetic springador named Radar.
MD Thesis Title – The Cellular biology and chondrogenic potential of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells from trauma and osteoarthritic donors

Approach to patient care
I consider it a privilege being able to offer my expertise in the alleviation of pain and distress in my patient’s lives. I try to take a holistic view of the patients under my care. I take the time to listen to their goals and expectations and try and keep those at the heart of the care that I deliver. I would only ever offer surgery when it is truly in the patient’s best interest.
