Biography

Mr Venkatesh is a fellowship-trained consultant orthopaedic surgeon with 20 years of comprehensive experience in trauma and orthopaedics. His medical journey began at the esteemed Bangalore Medical College in Bangalore, India, where he completed his medical degree. He subsequently undertook higher specialist training in trauma and orthopaedics, earning the prestigious Diplomate of National Board (DNB) in T&O from the National Board of Examinations, India.

To further enhance his expertise, Mr Venkatesh pursued advanced orthopaedic training in the UK, achieving the Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in Edinburgh and completing the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in trauma and orthopaedics from the Royal College of Surgeons in the UK. He also conducted research at Teesside University, culminating in a Master of Chirurgery (MCh) in orthopaedics.

His commitment to excellence led him to undertake a Medical Training Initiative (MTI) RCS knee fellowship and a lower limb arthroplasty fellowship in the UK. In addition, he completed a British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) fellowship focused on leadership and management in 2016, during which he actively contributed to NHS service improvement and quality enhancement projects.

Mr Venkatesh’s specialist training and surgical techniques

Mr Venkatesh specialises in trauma and orthopaedics, with a particular focus on lower limb procedures, especially hip and knee joint replacement surgery. He is experienced in managing complex primary and revision arthroplasty, including cutting-edge robotic-assisted arthroplasty techniques. He also has a strong interest in knee sports surgery, providing treatments such as ligament reconstruction, cartilage preservation procedures, meniscal repair and a range of joint preservation techniques.

In addition, he manages shoulder and ankle sports injuries and performs a variety of elective foot and ankle procedures, including bunion surgery, corrective osteotomies and Morton’s neuroma surgery. His expertise extends to complex diabetic foot limb salvage surgery, as well as hand and wrist procedures such as carpal tunnel release, Dupuytren’s contracture surgery and treatment for De Quervain’s tenosynovitis.

Mr Venkatesh has actively contributed to clinical research, participating in major multicentre trials such as the TOPKAT trial, investigating total and partial knee replacement surgery, and the ABICUS trial, exploring autologous stem cell therapy for knee cartilage defects. His research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including The Lancet, and demonstrates his commitment to evidence-based practice and improving patient outcomes.

1. TOPKAT RCT: This multi-centre trial, focusing on total or partial knee replacement surgery for knee arthritis, was conducted in collaboration with the Oxford group, with results subsequently published in the prestigious The Lancet journal.

2. ABICUS RCT: This multi-centre trial investigated the effectiveness of autologous bone marrow stem cells for treating cartilage defects in the knee joint, in association with Southampton University Hospital, with findings published in a peer-reviewed journal.
