Practice Plus Group Hospital, Emersons Green, has welcomed three new team members through our partnership with Tent UK, a coalition dedicated to refugee employment. This collaboration is opening meaningful career opportunities for refugees while enriching our team and culture.

Earlier this year, the team hosted an open day exclusively for refugees in partnership with the International Rescue Committee UK, sharing insights into our roles, values, and workplace. The response was overwhelming. With tailored support in CV writing, interview preparation, and navigating the job market, three candidates have now joined us in sterile services and theatres.

Real stories making real impact

Radmehr Shafiee, a former veterinary surgeon with a PhD, fled political persecution in Iran. Despite holding a PhD and several medical publications, he was repeatedly turned away. He now works as a Sterile Services Technician and  says this career gives him hope for a better future. He says,

“This job is a turning point in my life. After fleeing conflict, it gives me hope, stability, and a reason to smile again. The team is professional, friendly, and has made me feel truly welcome. This job also gives me hope to rebuild my life, find stable housing, and support my mental health.”

Working alongside Radmehr in sterile services is Aykut Eroglu, who left Turkey under threat. After volunteering and facing barriers to employment, he discovered Practice Plus Group. He adds,
“I came here with no English, no job, and no clear path. Practice Plus Group gave me a second chance. Meeting the team and seeing the hospital made it feel real. The team here is like a family. Now I’m learning, growing, and finally feel secure.”

Partnership for impact

Jen Stobart, Director at Tent UK, praised the collaboration:

“Practice Plus Group showed exceptional leadership and commitment to refugee integration. I was enthused to see once more what can be done when we work together to tackle the barriers both employers and refugee jobseekers face.

When employers remove barriers, incredible things happen—for candidates and businesses alike.”

Hospital Director, Andrew Oakerbee, agrees:

“This experience has been transformative for our team. It deepens our culture of inclusion and brings unique skills and perspectives to our hospital. We’re proud to offer clear career pathways, excellent training, and a truly welcoming environment.”

At Practice Plus Group, we believe a diverse workforce delivers better care. If you’re looking for purpose-driven work in a place where everyone belongs, explore our opportunities.

I am proud of what we have built. A workplace where people feel valued. Where growth is supported. And where patient care always comes first.
