Cataract surgery FAQs
Cataract surgery is very rewarding. The benefit of cataract surgery is restoration of vision. Most patients can confidently get back to routine activities such as reading, watching television, driving and playing sports.
Cataract surgery is a major operation, however it has very low risk of complications.
At Practice Plus Group, patients paying for themselves or using private medical insurance, can usually have their cataract operation within 4-6 weeks after initial consultation.
Cataract surgery usually takes between 15-30 minutes.
After surgery, you will be taken to the discharge lounge, where you’ll be offered refreshments. A discharge nurse will discuss post-operative instructions with you and give you eyedrops that you’ll need to put in for four weeks. After all your questions have been answered, you will be discharged home.
You should be able to drive around 24 hours after surgery, provided you are certain you meet DVLA requirements.
The intraocular lens is permanent and never needs to be replaced.
You will be given a telephone number to ring if you have any concerns whatsoever.
At Practice Plus Group we are here for you. We treat our patients as we would like to be treated. We strive to do our best to give our patients the best outcomes and experience.

Your consultant does not require a second opinion.

You do not have a circumstance, condition or disease which means it is not appropriate or safe to undertake treatment within the timeframe. This includes cancellations on the day.
You are not taking medication that you need to stop for longer than the timeframe.
Your outpatient appointment or treatment is not cancelled on the day due to consultant or hospital staff sickness.
The specific treatment, speciality or all hospital activity is not suspended for any reason including unforeseen circumstances.
