‘Intraocular lenses’
The course is about an introduction to the current intraocular lenses used for cataract surgery. It provides information about the types, mechanism of action and expected function. The course discusses Patient selection criteria, suitability, limitations and complications. It would help optometrists and health professionals to update their knowledge and be in a better position to discuss with their patients the options available to them with their cataract surgery to suit their lifestyles and answer their questions with confidence.
About the speaker:
Charles Kanavati
Mr Charles Kanavati MB ChB, FRCSEd, FRCOphth as Medical Director, Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon for Ophthalmology in Rochdale. He graduated from Alexandria Medical School in Egypt, 1983. After two years in General surgery in Jerusalem, he completed higher surgical ophthalmology training at St John Eye Hospital in Jerusalem and UK in 1990 and undertook a subspecialty training fellowship in Vitreous and Retina surgery at St Paul‘s Eye Unit in Liverpool in 1993. He acquired a wealth of clinical experience and leadership, working at St John Eye Hospital in Jerusalem as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, Director of Clinical Research and Medical Director as well as in private practice until 2009. He then moved to Dubai to work as a Consultant Ophthalmologist, clinical lead and member of the Hospital Clinical Quality & Patient Safety (Including Morbidity & Mortality) Sub-Committee until 2012. He then returned to UK and took a Consultant Ophthalmologist job and clinical governance and Audit lead at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport. Mr Kanavati is experienced in small incision and premium advanced technology cataract and IOL implant surgery, Retinal and Laser surgery.
