The optometry team team are delighted to offer this accredited event for local referrers.
In this course, optometrists will master the art of assessing and distinguishing between common vitreoretinal pathologies right from their community optometry practice. Attendees will gain the skills to confidently utilise advanced diagnostic techniques, enabling them to identify specific characteristics and presentations of these conditions effectively. By the end of the learning journey, optometrists will be well-equipped to enhance patient care through precise and informed vitreoretinal evaluations in their practice.
There will be the opportunity for Q&A and further discussion at the end of the presentation.

About the speaker

Mr McCollum qualified as a doctor in 2012 at the Hull York Medical School with an additional year spent gaining a Bachelor of Science degree in human physiology at Leeds University. He completed his foundation training in Hull and Grimsby having spent four months working in ophthalmology.
After this Mr McCollum spent a year working as a trust grade doctor in ENT in Hull before embarking on his seven years of ophthalmology training throughout the Yorkshire deanery. He spent three years of this time focussed on vitreoretinal surgery and spent a further six months working in Bradford as a vitreoretinal fellow before taking up his post as consultant in Vitreoretinal surgery at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.
Mr McCollum has a particular interest in high volume and complex cataract surgery in addition to routine and emergency vitreoretinal work including epiretinal membrane peels, macular hole repairs, retinal detachment repairs and secondary lens implantation. He carries out regular audit of his work to ensure his complication and success rates are in keeping with the standards set nationally and the high standards expected by himself and his patients.
