What is self pay?
Self pay is an alternative way of getting the treatment you need by paying for yourself. You might want to choose this option if you are not eligible for NHS-funded care, want to be seen sooner, or don’t have private health insurance. Our aim is to make high quality hospital care as accessible and flexible as possible, to help you get back on your feet sooner.
How much does treatment cost?
The cost of surgery depends on which procedure you are having. Our price list can be found here. Because we offer high quality care from our established hospitals and surgical centres, without the costly extras you might associate with private hospital treatment, we are able to offer you more affordable prices; fast access to great treatment doesn’t have to break the bank. The final cost of your treatment will be determined following your initial consultation and will be unique to your individual needs.
I’ve already seen a consultant on the NHS, but have been told I have to wait for treatment – can I still pay for myself?

Changing your path from the NHS to self pay is simple, and you may even see the same consultant, as all of our doctors also treat NHS patients.
How quickly can I be treated?
We pride ourselves on our short waiting times, so your access to treatment could be significantly quicker with us. Please contact us using the enquiry form or visit your local Practice Plus Group hospital or surgical centre website for details of their Self Pay Advisors, who will be able to give you the latest information on waiting times.
Can I choose my consultant?
In order to keep our waiting times low and provide the best possible service to all of our patients, we do not give you the option to choose your consultant. This allows us to schedule your care as quickly as possible, so you don’t have to wait any longer than necessary. However, we will guarantee that you see the same consultant throughout your journey with us; they will be with you every step of the way, from consultation, to treatment, to aftercare. All of our consultants are highly skilled and experienced and adhere to the strict quality and governance standards we set, which mirror those of the NHS.
What if I have a problem after my surgery?
We have a dedicated patient helpline number at each hospital for you to call if you have any queries or concerns following your surgery. You will receive a telephone call from one of our clinicians the day after you return home, and you will have a check-up appointment or physiotherapy depending on the type of surgery you’ve had. We’ll make sure that you’re looked after for as long as you need our care.
How do we comply with the CMA order?
Compliance with CMA Order 2014
In October 2014, the Competition and Markets Authority (the “CMA”) published the Private Healthcare Market Investigation Order 2014 (the “Order”) following its investigation into the private healthcare industry. The Order imposed requirements on private hospital operators to disclose certain information in relation to referring clinicians (as defined by the Order) for the benefit of patients. Full details about the investigation and the Order can be found on the www.gov.uk/cma-cases/private-healthcare-market-investigation. The information provided by the Practice Plus Group below is required by the Order.
Practice Plus Group private healthcare services are delivered through fee rates and packages agreed between Practice Plus Group and Medical Insurers or Private Patients. Consultants who are employed or engaged through Practice Plus Group do not levy any fees directly to Medical Insurers or Private Patients, in relation to any healthcare services provided by Practice Plus Group. No Clinicians hold practicing privileges with Practice Plus Group and thus all referrals are received directly from General Practice, Private Patients or via Medical Insurers.
Practice Plus Group does not provide any Clinicians with any Direct Incentives or any High Value Services.
In the course of providing NHS and private healthcare services Practice Plus Group does provide some or all of the following Low Value Services:
- General services to ensure clinical safety e.g. in house training, administrative services, insurance or indemnity cover in respect of the treatment of patients.
- Basic workplace amenities including refreshments, subsidised meals provided on site, parking, and stationery.
- General marketing services e.g. general promotional events, providing consultant biographies/directories.
- General corporate hospitality.
