Ilford surgeon develops new service at North East London Treatment Centre

Essex and north London patients suffering from foot and ankle injuries will soon be able to receive treatment closer to home thanks to a service developed by an Ilford surgeon.
Multi-fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon Anil Prasanna has been appointed to launch the new orthopaedic surgical services at the North East London NHS Treatment Centre. For the first time, people suffering from a wide range of foot and ankle issues can be treated at the centre in Ilford.
After qualifying from Bulgaria’s Medical University Sofia in 2005, Mr Prasanna completed specialist training in trauma and orthopaedics. Since 2012 he has worked within the NHS holding prestigious positions including the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society fellowship at Windsor and foot and ankle fellowships at hospitals including Stepping Hill, the Lister Hospital, East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust.
His specialisms include all complex foot and ankle conditions, including bunion surgery, arthritis, Achilles tendon disorders and all aspects of sports injuries in the foot and ankle.
Mr Prasanna, who is married with two children, said: “There are many reasons for these injuries to occur, whether from wear and tear or issues around posture or accidents – including sporting injuries, which I sympathise with. I love to play cricket and I know full well how sudden slips, trips and falls on the pitch can lead to pain problems.
“Post-lockdown, we are now starting to see patients, and I am greatly looking forward to working with the team to develop this new and innovative specialism for local people.”
