£300,000 investment in Gillingham hospital’s decontamination facility

A £300,000 investment in sterile services will see patients at Practice Plus Group Surgical Centre, Gillingham safer than ever.
The Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) is used to effectively decontaminate equipment used at the hospital, protecting patients from COVID-19 and hospital acquired infections.
The system is faster – decontaminating up to three times as many instruments per hour – and greener – over a six-month period it could save an estimated 240,000 litres of water, with associated financial savings.
Sam Buckler, operations manager at the centre, said: “It is a significant investment and it is one that will help us to keep up our extremely high hygiene standards, which have allowed us to protect patients from hospital acquired infection.
“Our patients sit at the heart of everything we do and this is the latest in a long line of investment made by Practice Plus Group at our hospital. I believe it shows an ongoing commitment to ensure our patients receive the best care possible.”
