Visiting our hospitals during COVID-19

Please read the following guidance on how you can prepare for your procedure.

We kindly ask that if you have any of the following COVID-19 symptoms you don’t attend your appointment but contact the hospital for further advice:

  • shivering, chills or a high temperature (you feel hot to touch on your chest or back)
  • a new, continuous cough (coughing for more than an hour, or three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours)
  • loss or change to your sense of taste or smell
  • shortness of breath
  • feeling tired or exhausted
  • an aching body or a headache
  • a sore throat or a blocked or runny nose
  • loss of appetite or diarrhoea
  • feeling sick or being sick
  • any other coronavirus symptoms

Pre-procedure information

All patients are screened for signs and symptoms of infection.

When you come to see us you may notice that some of our colleagues are wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as face masks, aprons or gloves.

You will be asked about your COVID vaccination status in order for us to ensure you are cared for in the best way.

Handwashing is one of the most important ways for us all to reduce the spread of the virus. All colleagues and patients are required to practice good hand hygiene; we have regular hand wash stops, and guidance on how to wash your hands effectively is visible throughout our buildings.

Lateral flow testing

Some patients will be asked to undertake a Lateral Flow Device (LFD) test before coming into hospital. If you are asked to undertake a LFD test you will need to order you LFD test in advance via the website. You will be asked on the website to confirm you have a planned upcoming admission. You will need to order these in advance – a minimum of seven days in advance is recommended.

Proof of your LFD result will be asked for on admission:

  • If you are able to, you should record the results of your LFD test on the website when you take the test, and bring the confirmation text or email from the website with you as proof.
  • If you are unable to record your result on the website you should undertake a LFD the day before your admission and bring the test in a clear plastic bag (supplied with the test). Staff must see the negative test as proof.
  • If the you are unable to obtain a LFD we will request that you undertake a LFD test at the site.

You must inform the hospital if the test is positive and your procedure will be rescheduled.
